A large police presence near Sussex Primary School on Thursday afternoon was due to the tactical situation in the area. Hartland Police Chief Torin Misko said his department was called to a business on Richards Road because a man was shooting at vehicles in the parking lot. The man left the scene in a vehicle and was eventually seen by Waukesha County Sheriff’s deputies in Sussex Village. The chase has begun, Miško said. The man, 37, drove to a housing estate on Water Tower Court in Sussex and barricaded himself inside. Eventually he came out and was taken into custody. There were no injuries at work, and there was no shooting during the chase. Several schools in the area of the tactical situation were put on lockdown. Woodside Elementary School, which was the closest, remained on lockdown until 3:57 p.m., said Lt. Nicholas Wenzel of the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office of Public Information. The Hamilton School District sent home a letter to parents, which read in part: “The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department placed four of our school buildings on lockdown shortly before 3:00 p.m. This was in response to a situation that occurred off school property.
