A popular Louisville fruit market is moving to an east location as part of a new business strategy

A local grocer is rolling out a new business strategy that begins with the relocation of one of its stores, according to Louisville Business First. Paul’s Fruit Market plans to move its current store at 4946 Brownsboro Road to a new building at 4966 US 42. It’s just down the road, but director of operations Ben Coomes said the new space will allow the longtime Louisville grocer to introduce a new business approach. “We’ve been in that existing store, I think it’s approaching 50 years,” Coomes said. “We just added so much stuff that we kind of outgrew the space.” Coomes said the store started out just selling produce, but has since added offerings such as deli, gourmet products, gift baskets, plants, catering and more. With the new location, Paul’s will add even more options, such as meal kits and takeout options. It will also have a covered parking lot. Paul’s Fruit Market has four retail locations in Louisville: Brownsboro Road, Taylorsville Road, Chenoweth Lane and Shelbyville Road. Coomes said most stores are about 5,000 to 6,000 square feet. The larger plan for the new US 42 storefront allows the company to change the look and introduce new offerings. “This is, in a way, a prototype,” Coomes said. “This is the first store where we’ve actually taken the time to say, ‘We’ve outgrown this. What exactly is our business model? Do we want to change something? What do we want to do for the next 20 years?’” Coomes said the store is expected to be open by fall. The Brownsboro location will remain open until the new store is up and running.
