Job Summary:

Michigan Public Media (MPM) is looking for a team player to join our business office team. You will report to the Director of Human Resources and Finance. In addition, you will provide routine and ad hoc support to the Member Team. The role involves the use of discretion and judgment in relation to confidential matters and sensitive information. You have developed the skills and ability to determine when to ask questions or ask for help. You are motivated and have a demonstrated ability to take initiative and tolerate a moderate degree of ambiguity.

Responsibilities:

You will provide financial and administrative support for MPM. You will provide quality customer service and collaborate with the central processing office in procurement, financial operations and the shared services center.

70% finance, audit and research administration

  • Preparation of monthly and annual financial reports for the annual external financial audit;
  • Prepare the results for the annual audit;
  • Preparation of income, balances, cash flow statements and various other accounting statements and reports;
  • Analyze financial reports and records, making recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets and expenses;
  • Evaluate business processes and make recommendations for improvement;
  • Conducting annual reviews of policies, continuous efforts to improve and develop documentation of processes and procedures;
  • Ensure oversight of financial policies and procedures, maintain written policies and procedures for internal control purposes, complete gap analysis and sub-certifications, regularly review management reports, monitor problem areas and ensure that activities are in compliance with applicable rules and policies;
  • Assists the Director of Grants with pre- and post-award research administrative duties;
  • Assistance in the billing process at the end of the month;

30% administrative responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support to the Director of Human Resources and the Executive Director/General Manager, including but not limited to calendaring, committee support and ad hoc projects;
  • Collaborate on creating and documenting job descriptions for positions in departments; in cooperation with the HR unit;
  • Provide support for the search and hiring processes, including interview scheduling, candidate communication and coordination with the unit’s human resources;
  • DEI and professional development (PD) initiatives.
  • Provide back office support for the Administrative Assistant, including answering phones, copying, faxing, filing, ordering office supplies, distributing office mail and other office duties as needed;
  • Provide ad hoc support to the station’s fundraising efforts.
  • Serve as co-chair of the DEI/PD Committee;
  • Contribute to the planning, management and implementation of DEI & PD events and programming;
  • Collect information for weekly newsletters;

Required qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience

At least three years of proven ability and experience in duties related to liabilities and receivables or bookkeeping accounting duties

Knowledge of financial analysis and reporting

Knowledge of Excel (can perform complex functions) and Word

It will work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

Desired qualifications:

Knowledge of university financial systems (eg MPathways (Peoplesoft), Business Objects Querying/Reporting Tool, Concur/PCard Reconciliation, Accounts Payable/Procurement) and policies/procedures is highly desirable. An understanding of radio traffic systems is desirable. Experience in working with beneficiaries or relations with donors is desirable. Experience in providing administrative support to multiple teams.

*Limited vacation time during July and December.

Additional information:

This position is a hybrid position (three days in person and two days remotely).

The salary for this position will be based on the education and experience of the selected candidate.

Salary range:

50,000 – 60,000 USD
