Business sense | Success from a different perspective – Times-Standard

What are the metrics of your business (life) success? Is it money? Is it culture? Is it cash flow? Profitability? Marketing? What is it that makes your business (life) successful?

That answer lies in your business and life priorities. What is important to you? My father said that if “you are in business for money – you are only half paid.” I think he was right! If you’re in business just to make money, you’ll miss out on at least 50% of the joy of business — developing amazing relationships with those you care about and care about.

You have a platform in business. A platform of power. Platform of influence. A platform of love and leadership and the ability to make a difference in your community. Use this platform for more than just making money and monetary company — use your platform to make the world and your city, your community, your networks and relationships better and better and better. It is far beyond money. It’s about making a difference in the lives of others. Get started and make a difference today!

How do we create amazing relationships that are sustainable, profitable and lifelong? It starts with empathy. It’s putting others first, listening to them and having their best interests at heart. How do you prepare for this day in and day out? Great question!

• Prepare before you go to work: One thing you can do to develop better listening skills and sensitivity in your business acumen is to prepare before you go to work. Whether you read, pray, be silent – one constant is to keep this practice in mind – establish a routine. How to do it better? Take a few minutes a day to mentally rehearse what you are trying to achieve in your work and relationships. This daily focus exercise will lead you to become an incredible part of the solution – the work will flow from there. It has been said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care!”

• Positive Awareness: You can have a positive awareness if you have people on your radar every day. You begin to see that every moment you are at work can make a fundamental difference in how successful others can be. Money will flow if relationships come first. Reorganize your reticular activator (focus) in this direction and you will be sure to succeed as you empathetically listen and serve and help others get what they want and need. Zig Ziglar said it well: “If you help enough people get what they want, they will help you get what you want.” Most of us just want to be affirmed, supported and confident in our knowledge. Go and make someone’s day!

Instead of measuring your success in numbers or dollars alone, there may be another metric you’ve forgotten or never considered, and that’s your business legacy. Do you take care of people? Do you serve others? Are you listening well? Are you getting them what they want or need? If you do that, the rest will follow. Because if you do business only for money, you will only be paid half!
