Podcaster Joe Rogan said “the morons had a king” with former President Donald Trump.
Rogan made the comments on Thursday’s episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast while talking with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy about politics.
The pair discussed recently sworn-in Republican Rep. George Santos, who has sparked controversy after reports revealed he fabricated huge chunks of his resume during the campaign.
Rogan said there will be more candidates like Santos in the future and that politics is a “rough, compromised world”.
“I mean, who the hell is going to sign off on getting rid of all the special interest groups, getting rid of all the lobbyists? Nobody. So it’s like that’s why it was fascinating to see a guy like Trump come to power because he was such an outsider.” , Rogan said in a recording published by Mediaite.
Portnoy agreed and said the political establishment doesn’t know how to react to Trump because he has behaved in a way they didn’t expect.
“And the morons had a king. There are a lot of morons,” Rogan said. “And it doesn’t matter what he says, as, for them, he represents them.”
“It’s not perfect, but at least it’s real’ — like there’s this thought process that he’s playing with,” Rogan said, mimicking a Trump supporter.
“And also the people who didn’t, didn’t feel like they were being represented by someone who was ever in charge. And now this guy is, and he’s their guy.”
Despite Rogan’s popularity in right-wing circles, he has previously been dismissive of Trump and claimed to have turned down multiple requests to appear on his podcast.
“I’m not a Trump supporter in any way, shape or form. I’ve had the opportunity to have him on my show multiple times. Every time I’ve said no,” Rogan He said in July. “I don’t want to help him. I’m not interested in helping him.”
Rogan also expressed his support for Trump’s biggest rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who he said would make a “good president.”
Trump has previously spoken positively of Rogan, calling him an “interesting and popular guy” and defending him after controversy over the podcast host’s past use of the N-word.
